Mission
Dear All
We all know about the growing menace of the Kidney and Related Diseases (KRD) all over the world. In India the KRD is becoming a social as well as economic problem beyond the health sector due to increasing number of persons with KRD making negative impact. Presently Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and Hypertension (HTN) are the major causes for the KRD. More than 40% of the General population is now had DM&HTN. The risk of developing DM&HTN in the population is >40% at the age 40 years, this will increase as years go by. Fourty percent of Kidney Transplant (KT) & Dialysis population attending the hospital are suffering from DM&HTN. Among this 40%dies early and are not getting adequate treatment due to various reasons. The treatment is very costly when late and unaffordable to even affordable. Even after the KT the treatment cost is twenty to hundred thousands per month. We understand that the main reason for this calamity is due to the lack public (A to Z population) awareness (PAW) about the need for early detection and prevention (ED&P). ED&P is very crucial for the world and India in particular. For this reason it is decided to celebrate WORLD KIDNEY DAY in 2nd Thursday of March every year by IFKF and ISN in association with NGO and GO s to reach this at grass root level.
We met the Hon’ble Prime minister Dr. MANMOHAN SING and he understood the need to declare 13 March 2008 as official WKD in India.
I Dr.Karunan Kannampoyilil on behalf of the IFKF & ISN request to all, please do the needful in support for the success of WKD celebration on 13th March 2008 all over in India by various means.
Inkf is planning to do Village level PAW all over India with cooperation from all.
Dr. Karunan Kannampoyilil.
Director Inkf & Ambassador for WKD
